Car models come and go, and the same thing with features and accessories. If there’s one constant though it is the ever increasing speed, and best of all they are street legal. The cars on this list do not include concept cars, and only their top speed is indicated, and theoretical ones not included.
Below is our list of the fastest street legal cars today.
1. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport
The Bugatti Veyron was built for speed, so it’s hardly a surprise that it’s the fastest street legal car there is. The Super Sport can go from 0 to 60 miles in 2.4 seconds flat and can reach 267 miles per hour. In addition, the Super Sport packs a 1,200 horsepower, and a $2.4 million price tag.
2. Hennessey Venom GT
Runner up is the Venom GT. The Venom is based on the Lotus Exige but with a 7 liter, V8 turbo charged engine that can reach 265.7 miles per hour, although it can reportedly reach 275 miles per hour. However, the 275 mph has never been officially recorded so it’s currently ranked number two.
3. Koenigsegg Agera R
The Koenigsegg Agera R can go from 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds, and the highest confirmed speed is 260 mph although the manufacturer says that the car can go much faster. For the meantime, its highest recorded speed is good enough for number three on this list.
4. SSC Ultimate Aero
The SSC Ultimate Aero is capable of reaching a top speed of 257 miles per hour and this is due to its 1000 horsepower and twin turbo V8 engine. The Ultimate Aero actually held the title of the world’s faster car from 2007 to 2010, testament to how fast it really is.
5. Saleen S7
Along with the Ultimate Aero, the Saleen S7 is one of the fastest American super cars today, capable of reaching 248 miles per hour, which is incredible when you consider the fact the car was manufactured back in 2005. The Saleen S7 may be old, but the specs are still impressive with a 7 liter V8, engine with two turbo, not to mention 700 horsepower. Finally, the Saleen can go from 0 to 60 in just 2.8 seconds.
6. Koenigsegg CCX
The Koenigsegg CCX can reach 0 to 60 in 3.2 seconds, similar to the McLaren F1, but unlike the F1 the CCX can do it with two additional turbos and fewer cylinders. In addition, the CCX is equipped with 806 horsepower, allowing this Swedish super car to reach a top speed of 245 miles per hour.
7. McLaren F1
McLaren is one of the legends in the supercar industry, and the F1 was one of the cars that cemented its status. The McLaren F1 was built way back in the 1990s but with a 627 horsepower V12 it can reach 240 miles per hour and reach 60 in 3.2 seconds.
8. Zenvo ST1
Finally, there’s the ST1, courtesy of Danish manufacturer Zenvo, which is good for 233 miles per hour thanks to the 7 liter V8 equipped with a turbocharger and supercharger.
